Career

Vithya Ramraj’s journey in sports has been quite a rollercoaster ride. It all started when her mother enrolled her in a girl’s sports school in Erode, where she began playing hockey. But it was in athletics that Vithya and her twin sister Nithya found their true passion.

Vithya then joined The Kongu Arts and Science College in Erode, where she received support for her accommodation, food, and education expenses. She decided to focus on the 400m sprints and hurdles, but initially, she had doubts about her stamina and skills.

With the help of Coach Nehpal Singh Rathore, Vithya started working on her endurance and weaknesses. It wasn’t an easy journey, and Vithya even shed tears at times, but she persevered. Later, she had the opportunity to train under Coach Galina Bukharina at a national camp, but she didn’t see the progress she had hoped for.

Feeling a bit lost and missing the personalized attention she had in Chennai, Vithya made the tough decision to return and train with Coach Nehpal. This meant giving up the support she had at the national camp, but she believed it was the right choice for her.

And boy, did it pay off! In September 2021, Vithya had a breakthrough moment in her career when she won gold in three events at the National Open Championships. Despite facing challenges and not meeting the expectations at the national camp, Vithya’s determination and hard work led her to success. She may not have all the luxuries and support she had before, but she’s ready to prove herself and make her mark in the world of athletics.
