Chandrayaan-3, pronounced as “Moon-craft,” represents the third phase of India’s lunar exploration efforts, falling within the Chandrayaan program by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). This mission includes a lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan, which resemble the equipment used in the earlier Chandrayaan-2 mission. The propulsion module facilitated the transport of the lander and rover to lunar orbit, setting the stage for the lander’s controlled descent.

Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023. Subsequently, the lander and rover safely touched down in the vicinity of the lunar south pole on August 23, 2023. This achievement marked India as the first country to successfully land a spacecraft near the lunar south pole and the fourth nation to achieve a lunar landing overall.
