Career & Education
Rajinikanth studied at the Vivekananda Balaka Sangha school and Acharya Paathshala in Basavanagudi, Bangalore, for his formal education. He worked multiple jobs as a carpenter or coolie before becoming an actor to support himself.
He started working for Bangalore Bus Service as a bus conductor. Rajinikanth enrolled in the Madras Film Institute with a loan from a friend, Raj Bahadur. Rajini first met the director, K Balachander, while acting in a stage production at the Madras Film Institute. Balachander then offered Rajini a role in his Tamil film.
Although Rajini didn’t speak Tamil well, he quickly became fluent. Alongside actor Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth starred in his first Tamil movie, “Apoorva Raagangal,” in 1975. “Don” 1978, which went on to become his first commercial success.
In his 100th film, “Sri Raghavendra,” he played a Hindu saint named “Raghavendra Swami.” The action-adventure movie “Bloodstone,” starring Rajinikanth, was released in 1988.
