When he was in Bihar in 2008–2009, the Gopalganj district held an occasion called “Pratibha ki Khoj.” In seven games, he took the field and claimed 34 wickets. He joined the Bihar U-19 team in 2010 for the BCCI’s Associate & Affiliate Tournament.

Facts
- He joined the Bani Niketan club when he arrived in Bengal, where he received payments of Rs. 400–500 for playing tennis matches. Despite his father’s opposition to his choice, he chose cricket instead.
- Mukesh’s father wanted him to join the Indian army because there was less scope in Bihar for cricket at that time. In 2012, Mukesh was in Bihar and was preparing for the Indian army, but he could not clear the exam after attempting it thrice.
- He was invited to Bengal by his father to help him with his taxi business. He relocated to Bengal, where he used to train for the Indian army. He kept up with his love of cricket by competing in tennis ball games. His coach stated in an interview that while he was getting ready for the army, cricket was his true interest. His coach also claimed that because he took his cricket so seriously, he used to ride his bike 30 miles to the academy each day.
- When his father became ill, he was at Bengal camp and practising for dream season in Bengal. He used to spend the day practising and the evenings visiting him in the hospital. His brother told him of his father’s passing in 2019.
- He participated in a trial run for the Cricket Association of Bengal’s Vision 2020 initiative in 2014. In an interview, he discussed an event from the trial and said that when he arrived at the stadium, he almost missed his opportunity to bowl because he needed to use the bathroom. The selectors had crossed his name off the list when he returned from the loo. He asked them to give him a chance, and they let him bowl. During the trial, he made an impression on the judges and was accepted into the course. He failed the medical examination following the experiment because he was underweight despite being given decent food.
