Early Life and Family
On July 7, 1981, MS Dhoni was born into a Hindu Rajput family. Pan Singh, MS Dhoni’s father, worked in a junior managerial post at MECON, while Devaki Devi, his mother, is a stay-at-home mom. MS Dhoni completed his education at the DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir in Shyamali, Ranchi, where he excelled in sports like football and badminton and was chosen for district and club level competitions.
In the years 1997–1998, MS Dhoni continued to perform brilliantly as a wicketkeeper and ultimately was selected for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Under-16 Championship.

And Dhoni’s performance impressed Deval Sahay, who was promoted for his placement in the Bihar team. He was 18 years old in 1999–2000 when he was chosen for the Senior Bihar Ranji Team. He was later chosen for the East Zone Under-19 team, competing for the CK Naydu trophy. Dhoni came in last place since East Zone dropped every game.
Dhoni won the Man of the Match award in 2011 for his great performance at the Cricket World Cup, where he also captained India to the finals with wins over Australia in the quarterfinals and Pakistan in the final match of the tournament.
Dhoni declared his retirement from the test format and played his final test series against Australia during the 2014–15 season. With nine terminations in his final test, Dhoni beat Kumar Sangakkara’s previous record of 154 stumpings across all forms.
Dhoni played brilliantly against South Africa in the 2019 World Cup. In the second inning, Dhoni scored a half-century but was out at a critical moment.
Dhoni was the most expensive player in the first season of the IPL auction after being signed by the Chennai Super Kings for US$1.5 million.
