In 1979, when Mahesh Babu was four years old, he and his older brother Ramesh visited the Needa movie’s set. Mahesh was given the opportunity to perform in Dasari Narayana Rao’s film Needa as a young actor.
When the 1983 Telugu film Poratam began shot at Vauhini Studios, Telugu director Kodi Ramakrishna recommended Mahesh Babu’s father to cast Mahesh in the part of the protagonist’s brother. Mahesh was eight years old at the time, and while he had initially been hesitant to perform in the movie, the cast and crew finally persuaded him to do so. He then went on to make many well-known Telugu films as a young actor, such as Sankharavam (1987), Bazaar Rowdy (1988), Mugguru Kodukulu (1988), and Gudachari 117 (1989).
