He made his debut as a director with the superhit Tamil film, ‘Raja Rani in 2013. Atlee started his career at the age of 19 working as S. Shankar’s assistant director on the Enthiran (2010) and Nanban (2012) movies, which were both remade of the Hindi blockbuster 3 Idiots. His 2011 short film Mugaputhagam got a strong response from an interested audience and across multiple media channels.
He has also directed the films “Theri” (2016), “Mersal” (2017), and “Bigil” (2019). In 2017, he produced the Tamil film, ‘Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae.’ He signed to a three-film deal with Shah Rukh Khan’s production firm, “Red Chillies Entertainment,” in November 2019.
