Ankita Bhandari was a resident of Dobh-Shrikot, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. After completing Intermediate, She did 6 months Diploma in Hotel Management from Dehradun. She then started working as a receptionist at Vanantara Resort, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand on 28 Aug 2022.

Full Story of Murder
That dark night of 18 September 2022 when Ankita’s parents were calling her repeatedly but she was not answering. The family members came to search her room but could not find her. Ankita Bhandari also had a boyfriend named Pushpadeep whom she met online. Later he also became a suspect in Ankita’s murder. Pushpadeep informed about the harassment of Ankita in the resort. Later Ankita’s family lodged a missing report with the police, but no action was taken by the police for two days. When the matter got heated, Case was transferred to Laxman Jhula police station. Laxman Jhula police arrested three people after investigating the case. Ankit Gupta, manager of Pulkit Arya Hotel, and Saurabh Bhaskar, Pulkit’s friend, were arrested by the police. All three confessed their crime during interrogation.
During interrogation, They told that Pulkit Arya was torturing Ankita to serve VIP people, when both of them did not talk, Ankita had a fight with him and when they were coming back, Pulkit and we all pushed Ankita at Chilla Canal’s barrage. On 24 September 2022, Ankita’s body was recovered from the Barrage of the chilla canal by the State Disaster Response Force of Uttarakhand Police. The preliminary post-mortem of his body was done by the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences. In this, they told that Ankita had some injuries before she died. (1)
Fake autopsy report
Ankita’s family was not satisfied with the postmortem report and said that they will not perform her last rites until the final autopsy report is made public by the police. However, after several appeals to the local administration and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Ankita’s family agreed to perform her last rites.
Describing the incident as ‘unfortunate’, Dhami assured the family that the trial would be held in a fast-track court and the accused would be given the harshest punishment. Ankita’s last rites were performed by her family on 25 September 2022 at NIT Ghat in Srinagar.
Police constituted SIT to investigate the matter. In December 2022, the police filed a 500-page charge sheet against the three accused.
